Date Night, and An Exciting Announcement

8 Nov

Last night, Zach and I had an “At Home Date Night”

It was so fun! First, I decided on a “Cocktail of the Evening”:

Recipe can be found here.

I’m definitely going to make these again this weekend, but I’m going to change things up a bit. First, I’m going to use a better bourbon. That bourbon is just left over from our beach trip. Next, I need to get some new honey because mine has gotten hard, I had to heat it up to loosen it. Finally, I think I’ll shake the bourbon, lemon juice and honey over ice, but I won’t serve the drink over ice. I think it watered it down too much.

We also started things off with a little appetizer:

The Everything Pretzel Crisps are my favorite. Paired with Sabra Supremely Spicy Hummus it was a dream. After a few bites, we put it away so we didn’t ruin our dinner:

I made London Broil, roasted mixed veggies (broccoli, carrots and cauliflower) and mashed caulipots (one potato and a bag of steamed cauliflower with butter, salt and pepper). Yes, we doubled up on the cauliflower! It was a very tasty dinner. I wish I had gotten my flowers in the photo — they have held up very well since Sunday. Although, I did catch Penny eating them this morning. After a quick Google search to be sure Gerber daisies aren’t poisonous to cats, I put them in our bedroom. While we ate, we watched a movie I picked up at Redbox called Hick:

Photo from Wikipedia. It was pretty good. Chloe Moretz is probably my favorite actor under the age of 25. Last night I tweeted that she’s the best child actress since Jodie Foster. I can’t wait to see what she does as she gets older. Blake Lively was very good in this movie too.

After all of that, we were in bed embarrassingly early. I guess that’s what cocktails before dinner will do to you!

And now, for something completely different!

I’ve been chosen to be a Greatist ambassador!

From the ‘About’ section of Greatist:

“Everyone has a choice to be more fit, healthy, and happy. And though our goals and ambitions are often similar, each person is unique, every story different. A greatist is someone who chooses better to improve their fitness, health, and happinessAre you a greatist?”

About a week ago, Greatist put out a call for Ambassadors, and I applied. I was very excited to get an email yesterday saying that I had been accepted! I love Greatist. The site is filled with incredibly helpful information, and it’s updated often. Greatist doesn’t put any information out there that isn’t cited from a reliable source, so you can trust the information that you get when you read the site. Plus, Greatist is geared for young people on the go — you can follow Greatist on Twitter, Like Greatist on Facebook and sign up for a Daily email  so you will always have the most relevant health and fitness news at your fingertips.

I’m pretty excited to see what this new opportunity will do for me and for this blog, I think it will help me bring more relevant and up-to-date information to my readers.

Question of the Day:
Do you ever have an ‘at home’ date night?

Are you a Greatist!?

Congrats, Kristy! I’m excited to learn about Greatist.

And as for your question, we have at-home date night probably around once every couple months, but I would love to do it more often. It usually involves a trip to Jewel City Seafood to get some tuna or scallops for dinner because I eat very little meat that isn’t fish. The problem is, if I’m not actively engaged in something, I will fall asleep, so watching a movie on the couch isn’t the best for me. A few weeks ago, we had planned to go out but stayed in and played Carcassonne, which is a super fun board game I would recommend for the upcoming cold winter nights.

Yes, staying awake for a movie can be a challenge for me at times as well! I googled that game, it seems similar to Settlers of Catan, which I was recently introduced to and I enjoy quite a bit.

Wait, so you are eating the meats again?

Congrats on being a Greatist Ambassador! I have heard of them, seems like a cool group. Um your date night looks amazing. I am a whiskey/honey cocktail FANATIC and I am legit excited to make this at home. I have some local honey that I need to use. THANK YOU for showing me this recipe! I am impressed by the medium rare/medium status of your meat. That’s my girl.
