I Can’t Control My Eyebrow!

8 Mar

Happy Friday!

I woke up at 6:00 this morning and truly thought it was Saturday. Whomp whomp: What a bummer, right?! But that means I still have a full weekend to look forward to!

Here are some random things I’d like to talk about:

The sun came out to play today!

I just love these big, giant windows outside of my office! After two dreary, grey days, the sun has finally decided to grace us with its presence. It’s still pretty cold, but at least there is sunshine. Also, the weather forecast for the weekend looks like this:

…which means there is at least 1 outdoor run on my agenda this weekend!

In less exciting news, I think I may be coming down with a little cold. I’m definitely a little sniffly this morning. Hopefully it stops there!

Speaking of running, I’ve been really good about getting my miles in this week. I’ve done a 2 mile, 3 mile and 4 mile treadmill run so far this week. Yesterday’s four-miler is thanks to the ABC app on my phone and catching up with this week’s episode of The Bachelor: The Women Tell All.

Holy wow. Now, I just started watching The Bachelor this season, and I definitely see the appeal. It’s like a trainwreck! It’s so awkward to me. Sean will be on these intimate dates and the whole time I’m thinking, “He’s doing this with x other women….” — I just can’t see the appeal of being on that show! Watching it, however, now that’s a different story.

How about Tierra, huh? Could that girl be any more delusional? Before watching this episode, my favorite Tierra quote was:  “I can’t control my eyebrow! I can’t control everything on my face all the time!” – but now it’s, “I didn’t call you a liar, I said you lied to me.” and when someone explains to her that it’s the same thing, she says, “See? Everything I say is WRONG!” — oh man. I think it explained a lot when she said she was Little Miss Nevada when she was a child. Now we know what happens to Toddlers and Tiaras when they grow up!

I only watched through Tierra’s part and covered about 4 miles. I’m excited to finish it off, can’t wait to see what Ashlee has to say to Sean!

run walk

I noticed when I was walking back from the gym how bright it still was outside! It was almost 7 pm! After we turn our clocks forward this weekend, we will have so much daylight left in the evenings! Yay!

My Shade order arrived this week and I’m loving what I got. For how inexpensive everything was, I’m loving the quality. I wore the top above to work yesterday (sorry for the awkward selfie, I’m still working on it) and I got a lot of compliments on it. I love the trendy chevron pattern.

Ok, that’s enough random for one day!

I hope you have some nice weather this weekend wherever you are!

Question of the Day:
What are you most looking forward to this weekend?

#600in2013 Update

1 Mar

Welp, it’s March 1st. I swear, 2013 is going by faster than most years because it knows I have a wedding to plan.

This morning, I ran the slowest 3 miles ever. I just could not get into it, I kept stopping or taking walking breaks:

..it was rough. I can’t wait to run outside again, but the first weekend of March looks like it’s going to go right along with that whole “In like a lion…” thing (hopefully March will stay true to the end of that saying as well):

weather…yuck. Can I please just have some sun!? I don’t mind running in mid-to-high 30’s weather as long as there is some sun!

I’m also signed up for a Crossfit class tonight, so two workouts equals two breakfast (science, people). I made some more matzoh brei and then had  bowl of cinnamon Life cereal with almond milk while I sat at my desk:

Cinnamon Life tastes like my childhood. It was always our favorite cereal growing up.

So. It’s time to update my #600in2013 graphic! Woo!

600 miles in 2013 February

..for grand total of 92.92 miles. I’m about 7 miles short of my goal, but I’m not worried about it. When I’m able/willing to run outside again, I’ll be doing more long runs on the weekends, so I’ll make that up in no time. For now, 93 miles in 2 months is pretty good! When I was looking at my Daily Mile profile to add up my miles, I noticed that I was logging about 5 runs a week in January (when I went over my goal of 50 miles), but only logging about 3 runs a week in February, when I fell a little short of my goal. To me, it is clear that I should be shooting for about 4 runs/week to meet my 50 mile/month goal. It can be tough when I’m doing Crossfit 2x/week to do that, but I’ll give it a try this month and see how it works out.

And finally, for something completely random that I just had to share!

I was pretty excited when dry shampoos started showing up on store shelves, because it’s pretty common knowledge that it’s not terribly healthy for your hair to wash it every day. I’ve always longed to be one of those girls whose hair looks better on the second day, but I’m just not. If I don’t wash my hair exactly every 24 hours, it’s an oil slick and it looks terrible. So, when dry shampoos started coming onto the scene, I was super excited. However, I’ve had the worst time finding one that actually works on my hair. The Tresemme brand makes my second day hair look worse if that is even possible.

Anywho, I recently purchased this:

dry shampoo

It actually makes my hair look better on the second day than it did the first! It makes it look clean and even a little textured, which I need considering my hair is so fine.

Question of the Day:
How often do you wash your hair?

Some Random Thoughts

5 Nov

It was so easy to get dressed and ready for work this morning with a clean and organized closet. I had more time to focus on using my new curling wand:

I’m not terribly good at taking self-portraits.

Now that I have longer hair, I’m trying to avoid the dreaded ponytail-every-day syndrome, which is one of the main reasons I’ve kept my hair short for so long. My future sister-in-law has a curling wand (basically, a curling iron without a clip), and one evening she curled my hair for me. I immediately bought one. I have very fine hair, but it holds curl well, so that is one way to get some volume. I’ve been practicing a lot, and I think I’m getting really good giving myself the soft curls. It’s not as easy as it looks! I spent a lot of time in the bathroom, with a laptop perched on the sink, watching You Tube tutorials. If You Tube had existed when I was in high school, I would have been a lot more attractive.

Did the end of Daylight Savings Time mess with anyone else? When I woke up on Sunday, I walked around our apartment looking at all the clocks, trying to figure out what time it was. It turned out my phone had gone back two hours rather than just one.

This morning, I woke up on my own, thinking that my alarm hadn’t gone off. I thought, “Wow, this is great! I’m up before my alarm! I’ll have some time to drink my coffee before I go to the gym!” — turns out I hadn’t turned on my alarm at all, so it was 6:30, and I had missed the class I wanted to go to. Since I’m not running this week (6 days until the Half Marathon!) , I decided to just have a relaxing morning instead. I’ll do some yoga this evening before bed.

Yesterday was grocery day. I tried to get out of the door early in the morning to beat the Sunday crowd, and I was mostly successful. It started getting crowded just as I was wrapping up. There was a cart of fresh flowers on Manager’s Special when I first walked in, so I picked these up:

It was by far the best $2 I’ve spent for a long time. Those flowers made me happy all day long. I might have to start picking up fresh flowers for the table more often. After closet cleaning, I spent most of yesterday being lazy or cooking. I made some curried pumpkin potato soup, mostly off the cuff, which turned out really good. I’ll post photos and the recipe here later after I take a photo. I also made some homemade pizza and another pumpkin bread to enjoy this week. Yum! I wish I had taken pictures, but I was too busy doing this:

…watching my favorite Christmas movie while covered in cats. Bad Santa is one of the most hilarious movies of all time. If you’re easily offended, however, you might want to avoid it!

With 6 days to go until the half-marathon, I don’t foresee many fitness-related posts this week. Like I mentioned last week, I’ll be doing a lot of stretching and relaxing this week to keep my legs fresh for Sunday. I did walk to work this morning, and hopefully I get some more walking in this week as well.

After the half is over, I am planning to start Jamie Eason’s Live Fit Trainer:

The first four weeks of the program, you do no cardio, whatsoever! I can’t even imagine not doing any cardio at all, but I’m going to give it a try. I’ve never followed a truly structured program like this, and I definitely need to do something to jump start some fat loss. You can find the program details here.

Question of the Day:
Do you ever have fresh flowers in your house? Does it improve your outlook?
