Slow Down, Kristy

This is what it looked like when I sat down at my desk this morning. Hello, sunshine! Nice to see you again! Please talk to your friend 60-degree-weather and tell him it would be nice to see him as well!

One thing I do when I get sick is push myself really hard once I feel a little better. I want to make up for lost time with workouts, chores, etc., and sometimes I end up pushing a little too hard. I feel a little bad today, and I’m pretty sure it’s all my fault. As I mentioned last time we spoke, I signed up for an extra Crossfit class this week, which was this morning:

3/14/13 WOD
30 minutes (!!) EMOM (every minute on the minute)
5 burpees
10 pushups
15 situps

Ouch. It was very hard to get each set done in a minute, and we had to do it THIRTY times. Now, I’m not feeling too run down, but I’m still pretty congested so this high-intensity cardiovascular workout hit me hard. I’ve been coughing all morning. Slow it down, Kristy.

I think I’ll take it easy tonight and sleep in tomorrow before Friday evening’s Crossfit class, and hopefully I’ll feel a little better.

Short post today — things are still super crazy at work!

Question of the Day:
Do you ever have to tell yourself to slow down?

Back from the Dead

13 Mar

Oh man, did I get sick this weekend.

I rarely get sick beyond a sniffle and a scratchy throat, so when I do, I’m a big baby about it. This sickness made me feel terrible, and it did not help that we have been extremely busy at work this week. One of the larger ongoing projects that I work on had some applications due this week, and they are a bit complicated. Unfortunately, this is a busy time at my work, so I wasn’t able to start working on them until Monday, so when I got sick on Sunday things were a little tough. There was no way I could take time off work with these applications looming, so that meant me at work, sick, miserable and unhappy! Boo!

Luckily, I started feeling a little better yesterday, and today I’m almost 100%! Yay for a healthy immune system!

I’ve managed to run over 7 miles in the past two days and go to Crossfit — I’m making up for lost time 🙂

yesterday

That first mile was a struggle, but I was feeling strong the longer I ran!

That first mile was a struggle, but I was feeling strong the longer I ran!

I’m getting really sick of the treadmill, but these 7.39 miles are dedicated to The Bachelor. I was dying to see how it all ended and as of this morning, I’m almost caught up.

SPOILER ALERT! Stop reading now if you don’t want to know.

I knew he would pick Catherine! I really like Lindsey, too, but I could just see a spark between Sean and Catherine. I know these Bachelor romances never work out, but I’m a romantic and I hope that they make it. Catherine is adorable, and Sean seems sincere. It’s just so weird to me that you can be totally in love with two people and then the next thing you know, you’re engaged to one of them. I think I agreed with Sean’s mom when she told him that he didn’t have to get engaged to either girl.

Soooo, back to fitness! I wanted to get a good amount of miles in because I’ve signed up for two Crossfit classes in the next two days, and I probably won’t get to run much. The last time I did Crossfit on two consecutive days, I was so sore for days. However, I feel like I’m not getting as sore now that I’m doing Crossfit more regularly, so hopefully I’ll be ok 🙂

Sorry for the quick fitness update! I’m still super busy at work, so I need to get to it.

Question of the Day:
How are your workouts going? Are you getting them in?

Wild Wednesday

17 Oct

I can’t believe I haven’t posted since Friday! I’m a huge slacker!

Wild Wednesday: Where I dump all the little details I’ve not posted in the past few weeks.

Well, I went to the chiropractor, and I’m pleased to report that everything in my back, leg, buttocks and foot is feeling a little better. My doctor wants me to come back on Wednesday AND Friday, she says I’m extra tight and need a lot of massages. Who am I to argue? There was definitely a little pain during the appointment, but it was all that good, getting the knots out pain.

I’m also pleased to report that I’ve already done yoga twice already this week, and I have plans for at least two more classes!

I’ve been feeling a little ‘off’ since Friday. I went home from work early due to just not feeling well and a massive headache. I ended up in bed for most of the day with a pillow over my head, and wasn’t feeling up to much of anything until Sunday. I did get my long run in though! 8ish miles. The half-marathon is in 3.5 weeks, so I really need to get the long runs in every week until the week before. I will only get up to 10, though. SIGH.

Are you a competitive runner? If you’re outside and there are other runners around, do you try to pass them? I don’t, and I’m fine with it if others want to, but on the last couple of miles of my long run on Sunday, this girl decided she wanted to pass me:

Which is fine, but every time she passed me, she seemed to slow down. I’m pretty sure I was keeping the same pace, because she would pass me and then I would almost be right on her heels again. So, I passed her back. After two more times of this cat and mouse game, I stopped (that’s when I took this photo) and let her go ahead of me. She obviously wanted to be faster and after almost 8 miles I wasn’t in the mood to challenge her. Has this ever happened to you?

Penny always claims my running shoes after I get home from a run.

When the cooler weather hits, the sun spot becomes the most coveted napping place in my house:

Shortly after this picture was taken, another cat came along, beat her up and took over the sun spot. It’s big enough for three, but they all fight over it. Also, my future sister-in-law (and neighbor)’s Doberman is sporting a sweatshirt:

..and I’m wearing my favorite tights/socks/boots combo:

I got out my one and only Halloween decoration (I have more, but I’ve been too busy this year), and Zach got a new pair of shoes so we had this box in our living room for days until we had the heart to toss it:

And finally, although this is probably from 2 weeks ago, I had to share this yummy breakfast I made:

It’s a play on my typical weekend breakfast. I chopped up two sweet potatoes (usually I use regular in this dish) and cooked them in my cast iron skillet with some olive oil, onions and green peppers (along with salt, pepper, cumin and chili powder) until they were soft. Then I popped the skillet into the oven (about 375) and cracked two eggs on top  and let it cook until the eggs were cooked through. I served it (in case you can’t tell) with some avocado and a whole wheat tortilla. Ho.ly. Cow. was this delicious. Quick and easy too! I highly suggest you try it!

One last thing:

Cookie Crisp is on the “Eat This” side of Eat This, Not That Supermarket Edition. How exciting is that?

Question of the Day:
Does your competitive streak ever come out when you’re exercising? If so, when?
